On October 25, 2017, Maclean's ran an opinion piece, Dismantling the Indian Act and modernizing treaties is possible – and necessary by Mr. Ross Holden, who is identified as an employee of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO).
The opinions and arguments in this article were solely those of the writer and do not reflect the opinions, beliefs or policies of the NWMO.
At the NWMO, we’re responsible for the safe, long-term management of used nuclear fuel in a manner that protects both people and the environment. Currently we’re working to identify a single, preferred location for a deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel, in an area with informed and willing hosts.
To reach this goal we know we need constructive working relationships with First Nation and Métis communities, built on mutual respect and trust. This means respecting the rights of Indigenous peoples and incorporating Indigenous knowledge into all aspects of our work.
